In its new two-year project ‘MYspace SAFEspace NOspace’ (2024-2025), the DIN A 13 tanzcompany is working with the concept of ‘safe space’ as a protected space for marginalised or discriminated groups. Three performers with physical disabilities and four performers from the ballroom community (LGBTQ+) were included in the artistic process.
For five days, three dancers from the group of people with disabilities and four dancers from the ballroom community had the task of entering into a performative dialogue with the residents living there.
After setting up our “Safe Space” in Cologne-Hahnwald and on Wiener Platz in Cologne-Mülheim in May, we were present at the LVR site in Cologne-Deutz and in the shopping street of Cologne-Flittard in July. The forecourt of the Cologne Chocolate Museum was our penultimate stop in August before we returned to Cologne-Mülheim for the final time.
